Platinum Embraces the Petal Project

DUBUQUE, IOWA – Platinum Supplemental Insurance has furthered its commitment to sustainable business practices by joining The Petal Project, a green business certification program. The Petal Project provides a framework for businesses dedicated to reducing energy, water and other natural resources which not only benefits the environment, but also improves the bottom line.

As a participant, Platinum must evaluate and update its business practices in five key areas: pollution prevention, water conservation, waste reduction, energy conservation and staff education. Platinum must complete a checklist of standard criteria in each area. Once complete, Platinum will receive a “petal” for that category.

Sustainability is a core value at Platinum Supplemental Insurance. When the company began renovations on the five – story factory building that serves as its headquarters, energy efficiency was a top priority.

Mike Berg, Platinum’s chief operating officer of administration, says that participation in The Petal Project will not only reduce the company’s environmental footprint, but also save time and money.

“Focusing on sustainability makes good business sense,” says Berg. “Participation in The Petal Project will encourage us to refine our processes throughout the organization – which will ultimately improve our bottom line.”
